It was almost eight years ago today that we were speeding south, having been one of the first arrivals of the season at Corfu’s airport. The dawn was breaking, we hadn’t slept much, but I was wide awake and completely in awe of the masses of tall lilacy-pinky flowers that filled the olive groves in the early morning sun. As our coach sped passed, the wild scabious waved us on our way and wished us all a pleasant stay. If I hadn’t already got the Corfu bug, then that was the moment that decided me. Later that week we hired a car, drove to Roda, met some lovely people and returned every year.
